Concept
We are ultimately aiming for an art style that is cartoonish but draws inspiration from science fiction and cyberpunk media. Despite those genres’ often grungy aesthetics, we want to create a comfortable and friendly environment for the user to enjoy, akin to a secluded cafe one might find in real life.
We believe that a cartoonish art style will allow us to create our own unique assets in a practical amount of time. We also intend to make our own props for any objects with unique designs, such as alien foods or plants. We will be experimenting with different lighting styles within Unity to help reinforce this art style. There are a number of free cartoon shaders available for the engine which will help us realize our goal.

Precedences
We’ve drawn inspiration from a number of games in our ideation process. We are basing our art style off cartoonish, cel-shaded aesthetics, seen in games like Among Us VR. The interactions are based on photography games such as Pokemon Snap and Umarangi Generation, where the user takes on an exploratory role and observes different sites within the world. Specifically, we are basing our environment on the ones found in Umarangi Generation, where the user is given the freedom to move throughout the different locales, and make their own unique observations. The specific coffee-shop aesthetic draws inspiration from the game Coffee Talk, with the relaxing and warm atmosphere it builds.
